Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a 2004 action-adventure game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. It is the seventh title in the Grand Theft Auto series, and the first main entry since 2002's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Set within the fictional state of San Andreas, based on Southern California, the single-player story follows gang member Carl "CJ" Johnson as he returns home to Los Santos from Liberty City after his mother's murder. The game is played from a third-person perspective, and its world is navigated on-foot or by vehicle.

Gameplay

Structured similarly to the previous two games in the series, the core gameplay consists of elements in a third-person shooter and a driving game, affording the player a large, open world environment in which to move around. On foot, the player character can walk, run, jump, climb, swim, and use weapons and various forms of hand-to-hand combat. In vehicle, the player can drive a variety of vehicles, including cars, buses, semis, boats, fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, trains, tanks, motorcycles, and bikes. The gameplay of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is similar to that of previous games in the series. Players can complete missions to progress through the story, or they can choose to ignore the missions and simply explore the game world. Players can also partake in a variety of activities, such as driving cars, flying aircraft, and playing minigames.

Graphics

The game's visuals are built on a revised version of the RenderWare engine, which had been used in the two previous Grand Theft Auto games. The countryside around the cities also is included, and features a number of rivers, forests, and mountains. The game's color palette is noticeably different from its predecessors, and includes more green and brown hues.
